Abstract

Interferometry at the infrared and optical domains of the spectrum is bringing substantial progress in many areas of astrophysics, in particular stellar astrophysics, because it allows observing with unprecedented details nearby stellar objects in the Galaxy. In addition to this observational revolution, there has also been important progress in the field of computational simulations. The computer code HDUST, whose author is the principal investigator of this project, is a theoretical tool that allows for solving the radiative transfer equation and the thermodynamic equilibrium in the non-local regime (NLTE) for arbitrary, three-dimensional geometries. As such, it allows for realistic numerical simulations of various kinds of astrophysical objects. Those simulations, and their application to analyzing interferometric data of Be and B[e] stars, constitute the core of our research in the past few years. This Research Project proposes financial support for a series of actions (international collaborative visits, acquisition of equipment and software, etc) to the goal of allowing us to maintain and expand our research activities over the next two years.
