Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the technical and economic double filtration technology - DF, to define the selection criteria of the upflow filter (or pre-filter). It is justified the choice of pre-filter (sand upflow filter - FAAG or gravel upflow filter - FAP) should be performed by a careful study, as there are factors of design and operation that must be considered. In this context, the literature is unanimous in stating that in the DF it is necessary to develop a draft of the two types of installations (FAAG/ descent rapid filter - FRD and FAP / FRD) and then perform an economic study to define the best alternative to be employed. Considering the lack of literature to facilitate the selection of the upflow filter to be used in DF technology, this research project aims to develop a conceptual model that allows selecting the pre-filter to be used, aiding the work of the designer engineer. The methodology will be based on Sabogal Paz (2007; 2010). It aims to estimate the efficiency of technology (FAAG/FRD and FAP/FRD), the production of waste and the costs involved (construction, operation, maintenance and administration) using information from existing water treatment plants, literature recommendations and databases found in dissertations and theses which investigated the DF, developed at the Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos, Universidade de São Paulo - EESC/USP. The development of DF projects in AUTOCAD for different flows is essential to estimate the costs involved. The idea is that the methodology can establish the factors, variables and indicators necessary to develop the conceptual model selection - MCS, which will be implemented using a computer program. The research will be performed by Civil and Environmental Engineering undergraduates of the EESC/ USP. The purpose is to create a conceptual model and a computer program that allow choosing the best DF alternative to be used depending on the particularities of the study area. Several papers will be prepared based on the results and published in national and international journals and conferences. (AU)
