Abstract

The objective of the proposed project is to study the effects of connecting a biodisel generating set (GS) to a distribution grid and develop a control strategy to regulate the power (active and reactive power) flow, and the GS terminal voltage amplitude and frequency. It will be also investigated the limitation of a mono-variable control technique based on single-control loops to regulate active power and field voltage of the GS. To analyze the GS in terms of simulations a standard feeder found in the IEEE-1547 and an experimental set-up for connecting the GS to the grid of the Power Processing and Renewable Energy Laboratory (PPREL) will be used. The performance of the GS control will be evaluated in islanding mode as well as, in connected mode under adverse conditions including different kinds of loads and fuels. Since energy resources have received strategic importance and solutions for energy processing have been the focus of investment from government agencies, it is expected that this project effectively contributes to the technological development and human resources training in control and energy processing.
