In this project we propose to implement a prototype for an interactive pre-operative neuro-surgical planning on the basis of the curviliner reformatting algorithm we developed. The results have been analyzed in conjunction with the neuro-scientists Prof. Dr. Fernando Cendes andDr. Clarissa Lin Yasuda. Both are members of the thematic project CInAPCE sponsored by FAPESP (Grant Agreement Number 2005/56578-4). Differently from the existing systems for visualizing and manipulating 3D neuroimages, such as 3DSlicer and FreeSurfer, our proposed system allows visual exploration of a cerebral structure by peeling offlayers parallel to the scalp. This innovative approach permits neuro-surgeons to visualize, in a view angle of craniomoty, the lesion size, the spatial relations beteween the healthy and diseased tissues, and to predict the post-operative complications; thus a more accurate assessment of surgery risks is possible. As scientific contributions we expect to achieve satisfactory results in multimodal interactive visualization and the transfer functions that correctly ``segment'' cerebral regions of interest to surgeons. And, as technlogical contrbitution, we intend to make available a prototypt of a pre-operative planner to the neuro-surgeons of our university hospital and analyze with them its effectiveness in aiding surgical procedure.
