Influence of energy density on the physical properties and bond strength of two restorative systems

Abstract

The purpose of this study will be to evaluate the physical properties and bond strength of two restorative systems. For this, two adhesive systems will be used: Adper SE Plus (3M ESPE) and Filtek P90 (3M ESPE) and two composite resins: Filtek Z250 (3M ESPE) and Filtek P90 (3M ESPE). For the microtensile bond strength, fracture mode (n=7) and nanoindentation (n=3), Class II cavities will be confectioned in human molars, which are restored with one of two restorative systems: Adper SE Plus + system Filtek Z250 or Filtek P90, and light cured with Bluephase 16i (Vivadent) light curing unit, and the energy density calculated according to the curing time recommended by the manufacturer or twice, and stored in distilled water for 24 h or 180 days. For the microtensile bond strength test, it will be used Universal Testing Machine (EMIC) and constant speed of 0.5 mm/min and then the fracture mode will be evaluated in scanning electron microscopy (JSM 5900, JEOL). In nanoindentation technique, it will be used the Nano Indenter ® XP (TPS Systems Corp.) to evaluate the nanohardness and elasticity modulus of dentin, the composite and the hybrid and adhesive layers. To test the degree of conversion of 40 specimens (n=10) of each adhesive and composite, the absorption spectra will be obtained in the FTIR spectrometer Spectrum 100/UATR (Perkin Elmer). For the analysis of microhardness (KHN) 40 samples (n=10) of each composite will be prepared, and five indentations (50gf/15s) will be performed on each sample in microhardness HMV-2T (Shimadzu). After 24 hours of immersion in absolute alcohol, new reading of KHN will be performed. Thus, the crosslink density will be calculated in percentage according to the reduction of KHN. For to evaluate the sorption and solubility of the adhesives and composites, 20 specimens (n=5) of each material will be confectioned. The data are recorded, tabulated and analyzed statistically.
