Abstract

The goal of the present project is to obtain glassy materials containing transition metal nanoparticles that will be studied in two fronts: The first concerns the preparation of glasses for photonics focusing mainly on the optical properties of heavy metal oxide glasses containing both nanoparticles and rare earth ions and their applications in all optical devices. The second one refers to the preparation of glasses doped with magnetic nanoparticles with potential applications in spin-photonics. Glasses will be prepared by the melting-quenching methodology. Transition metals, in the form of oxides or halides, will be incorporated into the glass matrix during the melting process. Nanoparticles will be growth from the bulk by thermal treatment at temperatures to be determined. (AU)
