Abstract

The 1st São Paulo School of Translational Science was held by the Hospital AC Camargo with support of FAPESP, bringing together 40 researchers from eight countries to discuss, from the perspective of translational medicine, issues such as drug development, genomics, immunology, neuroscience and cancer. Translational Medicine is a branch of medical research that seeks to connect directly the scientific research to the treatment of patients. As predicted, 100 selected students received scholarships and support for transportation, lodging and meals. The speakers invited to the course were from over 20 of the leading universities in the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil. The participation of renowned researchers secured the visibility for the event-as well as the theme itself, since Translational Science approximates the basic science to clinical application. (AU)
