Innovation networks for global warming mitigation: collaborative relationships of companies with low greenhouse gases emissions products

Abstract

Global warming is a fact as indicated by evidences as measurements of temperature, ice melting and sea level. To maintain greenhouse gases emissions at current rates would result in losses to world GNP and to sustainable development, due to increased incidence of natural disasters, reduction of areas for agriculture, reduction of available water and increased diffusion of insets that transmit diseases. To decrease those risks, global warming mitigation is necessary, which means, actions to reduce greenhouse gases emissions. Among organizational theories, the Relational View indicates how management articulates collaborative relationships to integrate competences and to access tacit knowledge necessary to perform innovations. This research aims to identify if companies with best performance in global warming mitigation have increased network relationship competence. To achieve this objective, the research will have a qualitative phase and a quantitative phase. The qualitative phase consists of multiple case studies about the features of the competences for managing collaborative relationships in companies that diffuse products as solar heaters, public transport buses with hybrid motors and high efficiency evaporative air coolers. Finally, the quantitative phase will be based on survey data to identify which aspects of the competences for managing collaborative relationships have explaining power to discriminate high performance companies in the mitigation of global warming by diffusing products with low greenhouse gases emissions.
