Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate 90 dental casts of 30 adults patients, mal e and female underwent to surgically assisted rapid maxillary surgery (SARME). Ali patients will be provided from the ambulatory of the Sector of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery in Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP).The sample will be divided in two groups through randomizing system. The Group I - 15 patients without retainer (GSC); Group II - 15 patients with retainer (GCC). Ali surgeries will be realized by the same surgeon. The screw activations will follow a protocol until the total correction of tranverse maxillary deficiency. After this period the screw will be fixed remained for four months and then will be removed. After this period ali the 15 patients of the Group I will not receive any type of retention and Group Il will receive the transpalatal arch. The dental and skeletal stability will be evaluated through dental casts in T1, pre operatory; T2, four months after the end of expansion and T3, ten months after the end of expansion. The dental casts will be digitalized by a laser scanner (Vivid 9i - Konica Minolta) and measurements will be done through software (Geomagic) to evaluate the stability The results will be statistically evaluated by a parametric tests. The Mann- Withney to evaluate age's differences and Friedman test to evaluate diferences between T1,T2 and T3 inside each group. (AU)
