Doppler ultrasound blood flow from digital artery in bovines with different scores of lameness

Abstract

Lameness is the main clinical manifestation on cattle affected by hoof lesions. Along with reproductive disorders and mastitis, hoof lesions are classified as one of the diseases that changes health and production of dairy cattle the most, and are associated with significant economic losses in dairy industry, becoming, thus, one of the best indicators of animal welfare. The direct inspection is the primary method for identifying lameness, but it does not allow an accurate diagnosis due to its subjectivity, which requires the development for hoof lesions early and/or accurate detection. In order to identify possible changes that may be associated with lameness, 50 cows selected by physical, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal examination, and evaluated by Doppler ultrasonography of the dorsal common digital artery, will be used, divided into groups according to the lameness scoring system.
