Abstract

The poor reproductive performance is a major production constraint (GRÖHN, RAJALA-SCHULTZ, 2000). During the postpartum period to a higher incidence of disease causing an increase occurs in the interval between deliveries, and a conception rate of 20% less (LEBLANC et al., 2002a). The endometritis is a superficial inflammation of the endometrium, which does not reach the deepest layers of the stratum spongiosum tissue. Histologically endometritis is characterized by epithelial damage, inflammatory cell infiltration, vascular congestion, edema and varying degrees of accumulation of lymphocytes and plasma cells in the superficial layers of the tissue (KENNEDY and MILLER, 1993; BONDURANT, 1999). Characterization of hemodynamic changes of the uterine and ovarian arteries are important for gynecology and obstetrics in human and veterinary medicine information. (KÖSTER et al., 2001; BORINI et al., 2004; CLAU-ALVAREZ and list, 2005). The Doppler allows one to determine the presence, direction, and type of blood flow (CARVALHO et al., 2008). The tool associated with conventional Doppler ultrasound provides real-time information on the vascular architecture and hemodynamic aspects of the vessels in several organs. This study aims to describe, through Doppler ultrasound, hemodynamic changes in the uterus of female bovines caused by endometritis, diagnosed at 35 days postpartum. 60 Holstein cows with up to 35 days postpartum, 30 healthy animals and 30 animals with endometritis of dairy farms in the state of São Paulo will be evaluated. The results will be analyzed statistically. (AU)
