Sciences of language and language teaching

Abstract

The collection includes 23 articles of Brazilian and French experts in language sciences, more specifically in the areas of discourse analysis, applied linguistics and enunciation. It is a selection of studies that comprise current issues and general advances made in language(s) studies. The book is structured in two parts. The former, entitled Discourses' appropriation, comprises three complementary aspects: chapter 1 deals with social discourse and the emergence and circulation of meaning within the subjective and social interface; chapter 2 shows the important relationship between expressing experiences through language and becoming a historical subject; and chapter 3, based on the topics of enunciation, designation and argumentation, associates the notion of discourses' appropriation with meaning production. The second part of the book turns to Language teaching. Chapter 4 introduces the section resuming the conditions of emergency and autonomy of such discipline. Next chapters 5 and 6 raise recurring issues in language teaching, such as: considering specific language learning, which language and what kind of grammar should be taught? What is the best strategy for teaching and learning when it comes to specialized language acquisition? Finally two texts show future developments for sciences of language and language teaching reaffirming the social and intellectual values that legitimize and promote both areas. (AU)
