Abstract

The present project has as its objective the quantification of the emission of the principal greenhouse effect gases of biogenic origin (CH4, CO2 and N2O) in the water and in the sediment of the Barra Bonita, Bariri, Ibitinga and Promissão reservoirs, located in cascade in the middle Tietê river, State of São Paulo. It is intended to report on, twice a year (summer and winter), the trophic state and other environmental factors of bodies of water with the emission of greenhouse effect gases in a simultaneous way and at diferente times of the year.We will also quantify, in points located along the reservoirs, the levels of denitrification, of methanogenesis and of respiration, aiming to identify the principal sources of the emission of greenhouse effect gases, as well as estimate the capacity which each system possesses to remove the existing excess of carbono and nitrogen.
