Abstract

The introduction of therapy Highly active antiretroviral (HAART) could modify the infection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) from a fatal disease to a chronic disease, with an increase in longevity and quality of life. However, adverse effects have been associated with HAART, like the lipodystrophy syndrome (LS) which is characterized by poor distribution of rotundity and metabolic disorders and has not yet proven treatment. Studies show that physical exercises help to control the LS, but do not yet know the best method of exercise. This study wants to evaluate the influence of resistance exercise training (RT) in LS people living with HIV / AIDS, since the RT promotes better body harmony and help in controlling chronic diseases with cardiovascular implications. The sample has 40 positive patients, 20 control and 20 case group performing 36 training sessions, delivered in six sessions of evolution with three sets of 15 repetitions without worrying about the charge, followed by six sessions of adaptation with 50 % of its maximum load and 24 sessions of the specified period (hypertrophy), with three series of eight repetitions with 80% of its maximum load. The data to be analyzed change in body fat composition, metabolic and clinical before and after the proposed training. Statistical analysis will be compared inter and intra groups by ANOVA (one way) with post hoc (Tukey) to locate any differences. All analysis will be performed in SPSS 17.0 with a significance level previously established (p<0,05). The project protocol was approved by Ethics Committee of the University Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (protocol 6692/2010). (AU)
