Abstract

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men in Western countries and is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Among the treatment options, there is radical retropubic prostatectomy. Urinary incontinence is described in 2-87% of patients undergoing the procedure. However, most series reporting rates below 5%. The sphincter deficiency is considered the main etiology. The recovery of urinary continence is gradual and you may need one month to one year for which the patient obtains satisfactory bladder control. Few studies, however, sought to analyze the degree of pelvic floor muscle strength preoperatively radical prostatectomy and its correlation with the rates of incontinence in the post oepratório. Just as there are no studies to correlate the quality of life and erectile function before surgery and its correlation with the postoperative period, which is why it is important to conduct this study.
