Abstract
The production of public buildings during the administration of Governor Carvalho Pinto in the State of São Paulo (1959-1963), through its Plan of Action (PAGE, Action Plannning of the Carvalho Pinto Govemment) is one of the richest moments of the Brazilian modem architecture, both from the standpoint of its diffusion and of its protagonists' commitments. Brazilian Modemism in art, architecture and urbanism, since its origins had establíshed two programatic constants, that eventually marked its recognition as an important modem experience, constants present in almost alI its artistic and architectural production. These can be broadly defined as the national character ofthe modem production and the commitment oflocal modernism to the country's modemization. Taking into account these two features, but bringing to the forefront the production of social equipment, the public buildings ímplemented by PAGE, increased the development and dífusion of modern art and architecture. Implemented in a moment when, after the 1950’s, Modem Architec had already achieved a hegemonic position in Brazil, the works carried out by PAGE brought some inovative features to this production.
