Abstract

Acid-base balance modifications that can affect farm animals, although not usually mean serious problems for health animals, can potentially huge economic losses, especially for cases of acidosis and alkalosis. This study aims to determine and relate the variables haemogasometric: arterial oxygen pressure (PO2), arterial carbon dioxide pressure (PCO2), Pressure Hydrogen (pH), oxygen saturation (SO2), bicarbonate (HCO3-), Dioxide Total Carbon (TCO2) and base excess (BE) in venous and arterial blood of cattle of both sexes and different ages. To do so, as an experimental model will be used 80 Brahman cattle divided into four groups, each comprising 20 animals, 10 males and 10 females. The arrangement of the animals will be in groups according to age: G1, animals 00 to 30 days, G2, animals of 31 days to 6 months; G3 animals from 7 to 18 months, and G4, animals 19 to 36 months . All animals will be subjected to physical examination and blood samples by venipuncture of the jugular and carotid artery puncture, for the blood gasometric exam. (AU)
