Abstract

Changes in acid-base balance that may affect farm animals, although usually not without serious problems for healthy animals, can eventually cause major economic losses, especially for cases of acidosis and alkalosis. This study aims to determine and report the gas variables, arterial oxygen pressure (PO2), Blood Pressure of Carbon Dioxide (PCO2), Pressure Hydrogen (pH), oxygen saturation (SO2), bicarbonate (HCO3-), Dioxide Total Carbon (TCO2) and Base Excess (BE) in venous and arterial blood of cattle of both sexes and different ages. For this reason, experimental models will be used 80 Brahman cattle divided into four groups, each consisting of 20 animals, 10 males and 10 females. The arrangement of the animals in groups will be according to age: G1, animals 00 to 30 days, G2, animals from 31 days to 6 months; G3 animals from 7 to 18 months, and G4, animals 19 to 36 months. All animals will be subjected to physical examination and blood collection by venipuncture of the jugular and carotid arteriopunção for the exam haemogasometric. (AU)
