Abstract

This study will evaluate the effect of using plant extracts (pepper, oregano and cinnamon) in the diet of broilers during phases: initial and final growth on performance, carcass characteristics and economic viability. The experiment will take place in the aviary of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of São Paulo, campus of Pirassununga. It will include the preparation of two separate experiments: metabolism and performance. In the experiment of metabolism will be used the traditional method of total collection of excreta in broilers, and used 400 broilers divided into four treatments (0, 75, 150 and 225g/ton of plant extract in the diet) and 10 repetitions with 10 each bird and animals will be kept in metabolic cages. The digestibility trials will be made from 21 th to 26 th day. The variables are: gross energy, crude protein and amino acids. For the experiment performance will be used 1152 broilers which will create up to 42 days in the shed. The experiment will be conducted in a completely randomized design with eight treatments: T1 = No growth promoter, T2 = with growth promoter (bacitracin zinc), T3 = T1 + 75g/ton plant extracts (total period of creation), T4 = T1 + 150g/ton plant extracts (total period of creation), T5 = T1 + 225g/ton plant extracts (total period of creation); = T6 promoter up to 27 days + 75 g / ton plant extracts (28 - 42 days); = T7 promoter up to 27 days + 150 g / ton plant extracts (28 - 42 days) = T8 Promoter to 27 days + 225 g / ton plant extracts (28 - 42 days). Being distributed in 12 repetitions with 12 birds each. For weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion will be performed four weights: 1, 14, 28 and 42 days old birds. On day 42, there will slaughter of birds for carcass yield. To analyze the economic feasibility of the methodology used is described by Costa (1999). The results will be analyzed using the GLM procedure of SAS statistical software (2003) and the averages compared by Tukey test at 5% probability. (AU)
