Abstract

The purpose of this study will be to evaluate in vivo by the Checkerboard DNA-DNA Hybridization technique : 1) increase of the bacterial contamination in the saliva before and after the orthodontic bonding; 2) to evaluate if the plaque accumulation is lesser in the metallic bracket or self-ligating bracket; 3) to evaluate if will be difference in the plaque accumulation between the self-ligating brackets with different drawings (In-Ovation, Dentsply, GAC and Smartclip, 3M-Unitek). 25 patients will participate of this study (12-25 years), which will receive metallic brackets and self-ligating brackets bonded to different premolars in a randomized manner, between the arcs upper/lower and the sides right and left. The contamination will be evaluated in the saliva after 30 and 60 days after bonding. The brackets contamination will be evaluated in the same time. The results will be analyzed by the statistical means of the Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney and Dunn test. (AU)
