Abstract
The rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) is an exotic fruit, still little known among the population in Brazil, but presenting a high market potential and growth, as occurred with the lychee. The Brazilian state responsible for the higher number of the fruits produced is Bahia, but the biggest market is the State of São Paulo, where, for some time, have been observed the cultivation and placing fruit in the market on the offseason of Bahia, showing the potential of this fruit. The orchards formed by this fruit are still with plants originated from seeds, which has resulted in great variability, not only in the color of the fruit, but also in productivity. In this view, several researches have been developed for selection of matrices that need to be cloned to maintain the desirable characteristics. However, little is known about what the ideal system for cloning this plant. Therefore, the present research aimed to observe the response of rambutan front of layering and cutting propagation, beyond to verify the best temperature for germination and seed storage ability, whose plants may serve as rootstocks.
