Abstract

Bovine brucellosis is caused by Brucella abortus recognized as chronic disease, with zoonotic potential, related to severe losses in herds, due to abortion, birth of weak calves, premature reposition of cow, reduction of meat and milk production, as well as problems in international trade of animals and products. The brucellosis in bulls is restricted to genital tract, characterized by seminal vesiculitis and inflammation to accessory glands. In contrast to cows, B. abortus infections in bulls determine low or absence of serum levels, which difficult the serodiagnosis on basis in conventional methods. The present study aims to compare the performance of serological tests of AAT, 2-ME, FC with semen plasma bonding, the microbiological culture and PCR of semen, and to assess the andrological examination in bulls bred in the central-western state of São Paulo.
