Abstract

The University of São Paulo Campus is located in the urban area of the city of Sao Paulo, with almost 4,2 million square meters, where almost 100 thousand people circulate, daily. Despite being walled, the Campus has access gates to pedestrians and vehicles. The university community has contact with stray dogs, therefore, exposed to the risk of zoonosis transmission, bite aggression and traffic accidents. The size of this population is unknown, such as its dynamics and this risk, although existing, cannot be measured nor managed, in order to make the coexistence with the university community more harmonious. A pseudo-capture method with photographic registry will be used to analyze the abundance of these animals, along with the animal transit estimate through the access gates and the abandonment and run over events inside the Campus. The population dynamics will be analyzed in association with the transmissible disease dynamics, in order to elucidate the population regulation mechanisms and the risks of zoonosis transmission to the university community. These activities are part of the Animal Monitoring Program at University of Sao Paulo Campus (ProMAC). (AU)
