Ripeners associated with boron and silicon sprayed to sugarcane

Abstract

The research project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of foliar application of boron and silicon with or without chemical ripeners with different mechanisms of action, and physiological changes in sugar cane and their implications on productivity, technology quality and regrowth of cane sugar. This research project will consist of two installed and conducted experiments in crop years 2009 and 2010, in ratoon cane, in two locations with different soil types, one of the areas is located in Igaraçu do Tietê, São Paulo, Cosan Group - Barra Unit (Barra Sugar Mill) and another area is located in the city of Olimpia, Sào Paulo, TEREOS group - Cruz Alta Unit (Guarani Sugar Mill). The experimental design will be in randomized blocks with five replications. Will be used varieties of cane sugar RB855453 (early maturing) and SP80-3280 (late maturing), experiment 1 and experiment 2, respectively. In both experiments the treatments will consist of the application of three chemical ripeners (sulfometuron methyl, ethyl trinexapac and ethephon) over the control (natural maturation) associated with the application of B and Si on the leaf. For the chemical ripeners, the doses are, respectively: 20 g c.p. ha-1, 0,8 L c.p. ha-1 and 0,66 L c.p. ha-1. For B, whose source is boric acid, the doses are: 0 and 0,18 kg ha-1. For application of Si, whose source is silicate of potassium, the doses are: 0 and 1,4 kg ha-1. The application of the treatments will occur in the months of March to early maturing variety and in the months of October to late maturing variety, using constant spraying pressure (CO2). The plot will be made up of eight lines of 10 m length with spacing of 1,5 m. Will be evaluated biochemical, biometric and technology parameters: the amount and activity of the enzyme invertase (acid and neutral) and sucrose synthase; determination of lignin content on regrowth; determination of B and Si in the leaves; height; regrowth; productivity of stalks and sugar; purity; pol cane; reduced sugars and fiber. The results will be submitted to analysis of variance and, for the parameters evaluated in more than three times of sampling, data were submitted to polynomial regression and the averages of the products compared by Tukey test at 5% probability.
