Abstract

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and is the second most common cancer among men and women. The initial evaluation of patients with lung cancer should be consistent with reality in order to properly staging the disease and offer appropriate treatment. However, despite recent advances in the staging by computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest and abdomen, bone scan (CO) whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain, bronchoscopy and mediastinoscopy and more recently with the inclusion of Positron Emission tomography (Positron Emission Tomography - PET) combined with CT scan, it is still frequent disagreement between clinical and pathological staging. Several studies in the literature made comparisons between these two models for staging observing a concordance rate ranging between 43% and 92%.For this reason, there is a natural need for the development of non-invasive methods as the functional diagnostic imaging modalities, which can provide accurate information on obtaining the correct staging of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of whole body MRI in the staging of patients with NSCLC. (AU)
