Abstract
Advances in genetics and molecular biology have made possible the complete sequencing of bovine genome, as well as they opened a new range on this research area. Nowadays, the most used tool in the evaluation of genomic data for beef production is the identification of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). Many SNP have been identified in Bos taurus in several genes related to weight gain, carcass traits, feed efficiency and other traits, while in Bos indicus there are few studies involving thousands of SNP associated with production traits, specially feed efficiency and feed intake. This project aimed to verify SNP in cattle's genome, associate these with feed intake and feed efficiency and estimate the molecular breeding value of Nellore cattle, the most expressive and important breed under Brazilian cattle. Data already collected on feed intake and feed efficiency of 400 Nellore bulls will be used. These animals had their genomic ADN extracted and will be individually genotyped by commercial chips (BovineHD and BovineSNP50 Beadchip®, Illumina Inc). These genomic data will be used in conjunction with the phenotypic data to characterize the SNP, to calculate gene and genotypic frequencies, additive, allele substitution and dominance effects. In addition, pedigree data will be included to estimate the molecular breeding value of each animal using GBLUP and Bayesian (Bayes A, B, C, CÀ and Lasso) methods. (AU)
