Abstract

Different pathological and microbiological conditions of the dental pulp, root canal system and periapical tissues may determine different protocols for endodontic treatment. Periapical radiographic changes are related to the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan of root canal treatment. Enterococcus faecalis, Tannerella forsythia, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola and Candida albicans are some of frequently isolated from necrotic root canals, but there are no studies correlating the presence and the quantity of these microorganisms with the osseus resorption evaluated by computed tomography. The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence and quantity of microorganisms mentioned above, using the method of qRT-PCR (real-time PCR) in patients with open or closed pulp necrosis teeth and presence or absence of periapical periodontitis, linking their presence to the evaluation of the periapical region by using cone beam computed tomography and radiography. Initially, the teeth selected for the study will be submitted to radiograph and then be carried out sampling and microbiological processing of samples for quantification of the microorganisms in study. Following will be submitted to tomography analysis. Results obtained by qRT-PCR, radiographs and CT scans will be analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. (AU)
