Abstract

The Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a multifactorial disease, where approximately 1 / 3 of their cases is secondary to other conditions such as hypertension. The SHR strain has been widely used to study the characteristics of hypertensive disease, and is the model that provides the most similar answers to human essential hypertension. Among the non-pharmacological treatments, the practice of physical exercise has been used in the reduction of RLS symptoms in humans and also significantly reduces blood pressure both in humans and in animals. The presence of RLS has already been demonstrated in SHR rats, however the relationship between hypertension, physical exercise and Restless Legs Syndrome has not been studied in animal models yet. In this context, assess the relationship between physical exercise and pharmacological treatment in reducing blood pressure in animals with SPI becomes relevant in an attempt to verify the improvement of RLS symptoms (which in the animal model is assessed by the reduction of locomotor activity) by physical exercise is related to BP reduction by drug treatment or the beneficial effects of the practice of physical exercise.. Thus, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of physical exercise on blood pressure and locomotor activity of hypertensive rats. Moreover, It´s also will evaluate the effect of pharmacological treatment of BP in locomotor activity. For this study will be used SHR and Wistar rats with 60 days of age. The animals will be divided into 4 groups: control (CTL), physical exercise (PE), treatment (TT) and physical exercise + treatment (PE + TT), since each group will have sub-groups of SHR and Wistar rats. The group PE will perform the test of basal locomotor activity at 60 days of age, and after will start immediately the protocol of physical training (which will remain for 8 weeks). The TT and CTL groups will perform the baseline testing of locomotor activity at 60 days of age too, and after the TT group will start the drug treatment with enalapril (25mg/kg/day) for 8 weeks. The assessment of BP and locomotor activity will be performed weekly throughout the experimental procedure. (AU)
