Aqueous solutions of surfactants as catalysts and templates for preparation of mesoporous thin films

Abstract

This project deals with the use of solutions of surfactants in electrochemical studies in order to evaluate the effect of these compounds in electrode processes and as agents on the electrodeposition of mesoporous films. The intention is to modify electrode surfaces employing liquid crystalline solutions of surfactants in order to produce mesoporous metal films on electrodes. We also intend to produce mesoporous microelectrodes in order to unite the diffusional properties of microeletrodes with the enhanced electroative electroactive area of a mesoporous electrode. Fundamental studies using micellar solutions of surfactants will also be performed in order to discover how the presence of these aggregates in solution affects the electrochemical behavior of electroactive species.
