Decision making to switch from injectable and oral contraceptives or condom to long acting reversible contraceptives

Abstract

The objective of the study will be to obatin information the motives and decison making of women to swith from combined oral contraceptives (COC), progestin-only pill, once-a-month or three-a-month injectable, condom or behavioral contraceptive methods to a long acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) (implants, copper-IUD or levonorgestrel-releasing intaruterine system [LNG_IUS]) All the women attended at the Familiy Planning clinic of the University of campinas (UNICAMP) who currently are in use of any LARC method and who had used previously COC, injectable contraceptives, behavioral methods or condom will be interview. As a pilot study we will incorporated almost 1,150 women. The interview will be conducted by a trained professionals through a structured pre-tested questionnaire specifically developed for this purpose. For statistically analysis, the dependent variables will be compared in the 3 groups (LNG-IUS, IUD or implants), according to the distribution with Student-t test for comparison of the mean (when the distribution will be normal) or Mann-Whitney test. After that we will perform logistic regression to test the associated variables with the continuation rate of the 3 methods. The SPSS v. 17.0 will be use. (AU)
