Abstract

The seminal plasma which mixes with sperm in the ejaculate, and serves as means of transport to the female genital tract, has been described as both beneficial and detrimental to sperm. Many authors have described the interference of seminal plasma in sperm functions such as motility, viability, fertility and assistance to capacity. There are also reports of negative influence of seminal plasma in the storage of semen, which contain components harmful to sperm viability. An alternative to reduce the concentrations of seminal plasma of the ejaculate is the centrifugation of semen or filtration techniques. However, several studies have reported apparent injury to the cattle damaging sperm fertilization by centrifugation method. The objective this work is investigated the freezability of semen from 20 bulls Bos indicus collected by electroejaculation in the removal of seminal plasma through centrifugation and filtration techniques and their consequences on the kinetics and the sperm plasma membrane integrity of spermatozoa. Furthermore, will be compared the blastocyst formation through the test in vitro production of bovine embryos using sperm frozen with or without the presence of seminal plasma. (AU)
