Abstract

This project aims to assess levels of substitution of corn by cassava scrapings in goat feeding on ruminal fermentation and production characteristics. Two experiments will be conducted. The first aims to assess the consumption of dry matter and nutrients, and feeding behavior, ruminal pH, short chain fatty acids, ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and in situ diet. The experiment will last for 92 days and will be used four goats fitted with ruminal cannula, non-pregnant, non-lactating and body weight of approximately 45.0 kg and distributed in a latin square (4 x 4), in which treatments consist of levels of 0, 33, 67 and 100% replacement of corn by cassava. The second experiment evaluates the effect of substitution on consumption, eating behavior and production traits of dairy goats grazing Panicum maximum cv. Tobiatã. Will last for 72 days and will be used eight lactating goats with average body weight of 50 kg, distributed in two latin squares (4 x 4) and subjected to the same treatments of an experiment. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance with significant influence over the characteristics of treatment will be studied by regression analysis. (AU)
