Abstract
Paula Fikkert has been a Senior Researcher at the Universiteit Nijmegen since 2002, where she is a professor of the Graduate Studies of the Department of Linguistics. She is also the coordinator of the Child Laboratory in Language Acquisition at the same university and member of the Baby Laboratory of the Max Plank Institut, Holland. The visit of Prof. Fikkert at the Department of Linguistics/ USP is organized by the Group of Language Acquisition at USP, coordenated by Prof. Raquel Santos. This research group began its activities 6 years ago and since 2003 has received support from FAPESP (grant 03/13565-4).In 2004, Prof. Santos conducted her pos-doc at Universiteit Nijmegen, with the supervision of Prof. Fikkert (CNPq grant 200380/2004-4 and FAPESP grant 04/01806-0). From their interaction they started two research projects: “The acquisition of rhythm in Brazilian Portuguese and Dutch” - which deals with a comparison between the acquisition processes of the prosodic templates in Dutch and Brazilian Portuguese; and “The phonological representation and the language acquisition process” - which discuss the acquisition of the phonological representation of words in Brazilian and European Portuguese.During her stay at USP, prof. Fikkert will teach the intensive course `Acquiring Phonological Representation´, continue her research projects with prof. Santos, and meet with the other members of the research group. (AU)
