Abstract

A new approach in studying magnetism of multilayers containing spacers with spin density wave (SDW) structure is suggested. Experimental studies of Cr spacers sandwiched between ferromagnetic (FM) layers are strongly complicated due to the presence of a FM background. Recent theoretical simulation of magnetic structure of Fe/Cr multilayers evidences the close origin of the SDW structure within Cr spacers and in the vicinity of magnetic impurities in bulk Cr alloys. Therefore we expect that some features of magnetism of Cr layers within Cr/Fe and Cr/Co systems can be simulated by the experimental study of bulk Cr alloys with Fe and Co. Transition from paramagnetic to local SDW phase, spin frustration and the bias effect in binary and ternary Cr alloys with Fe, Co, V, Mn, Si and Al will be studied by measuring magnetic and transport properties.
