Abstract

The visit of Dr. Dr. Ajit Meikap will be very useful to mount long term collaboration between Physics Department of the National Institute of the Technology, Durgapur, and different groups in Brazil studied physics of the semiconductor nanostructures. Among them are Laboratório de Novos Materiais Semicondutores (LNMS), Instituto de Física, Universidade de São Paulo, theoretical groups at Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Instituto de Física, Universidade do Estado de Rio de Janeiro, Instituto de Física, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and many others. Specially, Prof. G.M. Gusev in LNMS, IF-USP has developed several projects, including international (NSF-CNPq). The principal focus of this proposal will be on the study of the spin effects in the semiconductor nanostructures for applications in spintronics. Spin properties in such materials depend strongly on the Al composition x and y. Such property allows for electron spin to be easily manipulated by externally applied electric field. Our research is on the way to spin transistor- new generation of electronic devices based on the flow of spin in addition to the flow of charge. Technological and physical problems considered in this project may stimulate the further developments of the physic of the spintronic nanodevices in Brazil. (AU)
