Abstract
We propose to study Lefschetz fibrations in dimensions higher than four. There are many open problems in this area which are of interest in String Theory and Mirror Symmetry. We will investigate how to characterize when a topological Lefschetz fibration has a symplectic structure. Subsequently, we will study the possible Lefschetz fibrations of a fixed symplectic manifold, and find the minimal number of singular fibers and the nature of the singularities. (AU)
