Abstract

This project aims in general further study of electrical and optical characterization, production and applications of glow microplasmas, which have already started at the Laboratory of Optics and Spectroscopy (LOE) of the Department of Physics of the Institute of Aeronautical Technology (ITA) and the Laboratory of Plasma and Processes (LPP). Microplasmas are a new type of plasmas created in the laboratory with the particularity of operating also in atmospheric pressure. Since 2002, LOE studies these microplasmas by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) and has already acquired sufficient knowledge and technology to be able to enter the field of technological applications with emphasis on aerospace. As a current responsible for the LOE, the proponent of these project presented here has been conducting studies and research with microplasmas in collaboration with the LPP. This project will contribute significantly to achieving the aim of the ITA to become the largest laboratory in Brazil with resources for study materials treated or processed by cold plasma, and now also with microplasmas. This theme has a direct interest with ITA projects grants from FINEP, CNPq and FAPESP coordinated by others researchers in the ITA plasma teams. The know-how conquered by the LOE through optical characterization of microplasmas can also be used in the characterization of other plasmas. Thus, this project presented here also aims to improve the LOE to help with the training of students and researchers both of this laboratory and the LPP. (AU)
