Abstract

Irregular spatial concentration of economic activities suggests an explanation for the uneven regional development. International trade interacts with the phenomenon of agglomeration with the possibility to change the development of a domestic economy by reorganizing the internal economic geography, encouraging spatial clustering of particular industries, modifying and strengthening the structure of spatial concentration of activities. This project is embedded in that discussion and aims to examine the relation of local industrial exports with productive performance of the Brazilian regions, considering the existing agglomerative forces in the process. We will calculate indicators that measure the effect of sectoral exports on regional productivity of Brazilian industry. We will also investigate how changes in regional productivity of the industry affect the performance of local exports. For this, we will use "meso-regional" data from PIA (IBGE) and FuncexData (SECEX / MDIC), during the first decade of the present century. The discussions will take place on the literature of spatial economies. (AU)
