Abstract
The sheep have been widely used in various experimental protocols including medical and veterinary electrocardiographic evaluation. The electrocardiogram is an important diagnostic method, used primarily for detection of arrhythmias. Sheep heart physiology differs from that of adults at birth, and scarce studies describe the electrocardiographic evolution in neonatal lambs. Within the different age groups there are changes in electrocardiographic values obtained in several species, making necessary the standardization of same in neonatal lambs. This paper aims to describe the electrocardiographic evolution in lambs of different races during the first 35 days of age, providing data that may be useful in various protocols which use this species, as an experimental model. Will be assessed the electrocardiogram of 20 lambs, clinically sound, from birth (M0), on the seventh, 14°, 21°, 28°, 35° day of age, covering widely the neonatal period. Will be reviewed the following parameters: duration and amplitude of electrocardiographic waves, duration of intervals, variations of ST segment and T wave polarity, heart rate variability, as well as variations rhythm and heart rate, as well as the heart electrical axis.
