Universal design in e-learning

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to implement three principles of Universal Design for Learning (Using multiple means of representation of the content; use various means of action and expression; Providing various forms of engagement) in the development of the learning materials. The process of implementation of the strategies is performed by a multidisciplinary team, as follows: 1st Strategy - (text reading) adding speech with male and female voices that allows the user the option of reading or hearing the content (also allows access by mobile phone), 2 nd Strategy - availability of video classes with subtitles acclimated (enable reading of sounds for listeners who prefer reading and deaf people), 3rd Strategy - implementation of a free software that lets you control the speed of presentation of video ; 4th Strategy - incorporation of a special Forum, with the possibilities of participation in the forms written, spoken or written with video and sound. It should be noted that the strategies implemented were chosen according to their potential inclusive (to meet the different preferences and specificities of the largest possible number of people). With the chosen methodology seeks to determine and measure how the strategies were implemented that will encourage motivation and self-efficacy for learning. The instruments used are the Academic Motivation Scale (VALERAND et al., 1992, 1993) and the Scale of Perceived Academic Self-efficacy (de Sa, 2002, 2006) and the sample is selected according to the assumptions of type probabilistic stratified. This is a proposal that seeks to change the current paradigm of learning materials where the students do not have the opportunity to choose the format of the resources according to their learning preferences in order to provide an environment where they feel self-motivated. Rather than designing an specific course for special student, the goal is to enable the success of all! (AU)
