Evaluation of the endovascular treatment of iliac vein stenosis as a cause of advanced chronic venous insufficiency

Abstract

Most of vascular diseases affecting the lower limbs are of venous origin. Its highest incidence occurs from the third decade of life, reaching significantly the economically active population. Chronic venous insufficiency treatment aims to relieve symptoms, treat and prevent complications, avoid recurrences and provide cosmetic satisfaction with minimal side effects. Current treatment includes some classic clinical postural measures, compression therapy and the eventual use of medication. The results obtained in the medium and long term is unfavorable, since a large number of patients do not get better or evolves with recurrence of symptoms. At present times many foreign studies, not prospective, not randomized, have shown favorable results with the endovascular treatment of iliac vein obstruction in patients with advanced chronic venous insufficiency. This study aims to determine the prevalence of venous obstruction in patients with advanced chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs, compare the different complementary tests used in the diagnosis of obstructions, and observe the results of endovascular treatment, through the use of angioplasty and stenting in this group of patients.
