Characterization of protein expression of markers related to genetic alterations in chromosome 9p in mediastinal large B cell lymphoma, and relationship with markers for cell proliferation

Abstract

Mediastinal large B cell lymphoma (MLBCL) represent a clinicopathologic entity with specific clinical, immunophenotypic and genetic features, which differ from nodal diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). MLBCL is characterized by specific genetic alterations, considered its molecular signature: nuclear expression of REL, expression of "Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Associated Factor 1"-TRAF1, FIG and MAL, and amplification of the 9p region. These molecular alterations are responsible by activating or block diverse signaling pathways, which trigger increase of cell proliferation and/or escape of immune surveillance, predisposing to carcinogenesis. Objective: To evaluate protein expression of genes related to alterations of 9p chromosome, and relate them with protein expression of markers related to cell proliferation and cell cycle in cases of MLBCL. This profile will be also compared to that of nodal DLBCL, and to clinicopathologic findings. Hypotesis: Protein expression of selected genes may influence clinical outcome and response to therapy in patients with known genetic alterations. (AU)
