Abstract

This project concerns a two-month visit by Dr. Elisabetta Manconi to the department of mechanical engineering at UNESP Ilha Solteira. Dr Manconi is from the University of Parma in Italy and is a young researcher. She is working in the area of waves in structures and it is intended that she extends this work in UNESP with Professor Michael Brennan. Michael Brennan has also worked on waves and nonlinear vibrations and the intention is to investigate the interaction of waves on one-dimensional structures with nonlinear discontinuities. This has applications in structural health monitoring, which is a research area within the department. During her stay Dr. Manconi will also give a short course on waves and finite-elements and give a seminar on her research work, for both staff and students. (AU)
