Compared geological evolution of Itapira and Piracaia complexes in the region situated between the cities of Lindóia and Socorro, North, and Jarinu and Cabreúva, South, São Paulo State

Abstract

In the region between the towns of Lindóia and Socorro on the north and then south to the towns of Cabreuva and Jarinu two major tectonic domains are recognized: Alto Rio Grande Domain, with ages from Archean to Neoproterozoic, and Socorro Guaxupe Trust Nappe with Neoproterozoic age. The first contains the Archean rocks of the Amparo Complex, and metasediments and gneissic rocks of granitic composition of the Itapira Complex, while the second is represented by metasediments and granitic rocks of Piracaia Complex. Considering that there are doubts regarding the areas of occurrence of these domains, it is intended in this research to deepen knowledge regarding lithological units that make up the complexes of Itapira and Piracaia in the mentioned areas, detailing the geological evolution and metamorphic process and with the use of isotopic measurements, contribute to better establish an evolucionary model and raise criteria for distiguishing between them.
