Abstract

A descriptive study will be carried out with both quantitative and qualitative approach to investigate the perspective of men from the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC) regarding violence against women. Initially, an exploratory qualitative study will be developed using focus group technique. In a second stage, a cross sectional study will be carried out. In the qualitative stage, 8 focus groups will be conducted with a purposive sample of men to be obtained through the snowball technique. The focus groups will be stratified by education (until high school and complete / incomplete university) and age (18-29 years, 30-45 years, 46-65 years). It is estimated that 8 to 12 men participate in each group. A semi structured guide will be used to conduct the focus groups. The focus group discussions will be recorded and transcribed and the texts will be entered into the program NVivo to facilitate thematic content analysis. On the basis of this analysis a structured questionnaire will be designed and will pass through face and content validation by expert panel before being used in the quantitative stage. For this stage, a sample of 384 men who are employees of RMC companies, aged 18-65 years, will be selected. Fulfilled questionnaires will be entered in a specific database and descriptive analysis will be developed. (AU)
