Study and characterization of films built up by layer-by-layer technique using natural rubber latex

Abstract

The goal of this work is to investigate the fabrication process of nanostructured films using the colloidal form of latex and polyelectrolyte multilayers technique. NRL particles have a broad size distribution, in this sense; we propose the use of various centrifugation tools to be employed to separate small-sized particles in NRL dispersions (200-400nm) and to produce as homogeneous LbL films as possible. The morphological and physical-chemistry properties of the films produced will be evaluated by techniques such as MEV, TEM, AFM, UV-Vis, FTIR and quartz microbalance tools. In addition, the cytotoxicity of the films will be studied and the results obtained in this study will be employed to select the better material according to its potential to be applied in biomaterials field. The project can also bring results such as the publication of papers in scientific journals, symposium, conferences and patents publication. (AU)
