Study of the influence of food on etiology in lambs urolithiasis

Abstract

The sheep industry is a growing activity in Brazilian livestock plan is developed in different ways (extensive, semi-intensive, intensive). In creations, has been observed incidence of urolithiasis. Due to this fact, the study of aspects related to the genesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment becomes necessary and current. Built to the onset of urolithiasis, food is one of the most important predisposing factors in the formation of the calculations, especially in feedlot animals fed diets with higher volume of concentrates and little fiber. This project aims to evaluate the influence of power in the constitution of urolithiasis in sheep. Specifically, it is intended to test two types of diets, which will differ by the proportion of phosphorus. The effect of feeding on animals will be assessed by laboratory tests (serum urea and creatinine, urinalysis, concentration of phosphorus, magnesium and calcium in the blood and urine) and confirmation of diagnosis (ultrasound). Will be used 30 male sheep, with an average weight of 18 to 20kg and 4 months of age were randomly divided into 2 groups according to diet: Group I (n = 15) - level of phosphorus (P) 0.3%; Group II (n = 15) - 0.6 P level%. The animals are adapted to food and the environment for 15 days, after this period will receive diets for 90 consecutive days and water ad libitum. Moments (M) of clinical and harvest material: M0 - immediately before the commencement of diet and at intervals of 15 days in moments M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6. In addition to the clinical examination will be sampled blood and urine for urinalysis, serum urea and creatinine and phosphorus concentration, Magnesium and Calcium. The animals with clinical signs of urolithiasis will be evaluated by urethral and bladder ultrasound and confirmed the diagnosis will be undergoing medical treatment (hidropropulsão retrograde urethral) and, if necessary, urethrostomy.
