Abstract

Protein malnutrition and obesity are two major nutritional and public health throughout the world today, affecting billions of people. The nutrition transition that has occurred in recent decades is changing the nutritional profile leading to an increase in the percentage of obese individuals. The immune response is influenced by diet, suffered significant alterations both in malnutrition and in obesity. In recent studies from our group, there was a similarity in the immune response of the animal in relation to obese malnourished as decrease of circulating leukocytes, and bone marrow. We also observed a reduction in macrophage inflammatory foci. The reduction of macrophages may result in compromised innate and adaptive immunity, such as decreased production of cytokines and reactive oxygen and nitrogen, as well as affecting antigen presentation. This study compares various nutritional parameters, biochemical, haematological and immunological conditions of malnutrition and obesity in a murine model, evaluating the similarities and differences that may arise with altered intake of proteins and lipids (AU)
