Abstract

This project aims to support the professor Michel Ferriol visit to perform joint research for the development of laser active media and piezoelectric material at reduced costs, environmental impact and reproducibility. We expect that this cooperative study will provide subsidies for the construction of compact lasers from crystals of KY(WO4)2 doped with rare earth ion; in addition to allow the use of ultrasonic transducers from piezoelectric material (Kx,In1-x)NbO3, with the study of their optoelectronic properties and their potential application in equipment for medical images generation. The challenge of this project is to develop an appropriate methodology from the study of phase diagrams of the compounds proposed and adjustment of the fundamental parameters for the growth of single crystal fibers with appropriate characteristics, such as high optical and structural quality, for direct devices application. The visiting professor from Lorraine University, France, has large experience in the study of phase diagrams and also has experience in crystallization processes by the micro-pulling-down method. His experience may aggregate important knowledge for the development of this project. In addition, Prof. Ferriol should present lectures in the visited institutions (IPEN/UNIFESP) and also participate as invited speaker in XXXVI ENFMC, organized by Brazilian Physics Society (SBF).
