Study of tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis in officials of the criminal justice system of different types of units of possession of the city of Franco da Rocha, ESP

Abstract

For groups of people who remain confined, especially in prisons, tuberculosis was always a serious health problem, due to its respiratory transmission, putting at risk the professionals who work in the prison system, especially the contacts of detainees. Epidemiological studies have shown that professionals from prison have the highest probability to infect and being infected by TB, when compared to other occupational groups. Objective: To compare the prevalence of latent tuberculosis and pulmonary tuberculosis among the officials and contacts not contacts of each inmate, of different criminal units located in the municipality of Franco da Rocha, state of São Paulo. Methods: The study population will be the professionals who work in Criminal units located in the municipality of Franco da Rocha. The units to be studied will be the two hospitals of custody and Psychiatric Treatment are contingent upon the Secretary of Penitentiary Administration of the State of São Paulo (SAP) and the five units of the Foundation House belonging to the State Department of Justice and the Protection of citizenship. This study will involve the application of an individual questionnaire; implementation and reading of the tuberculin test; chest X ray, sputum smear and culture of the sputum, with subsequent identification and sensitivity test to antituberculose drugs of the strains isolated in the period from January to December 2013. The variables analyzed will be: name; membership; age; marital status; color or race; level of instruction; working time in the prison system; the sector in which you work; function that occupies; direct contact with inmate; previous tuberculosis; prior contact with tuberculosis persons; cough; expectoration; smoking; presence of pulmonary disease; presence of another disease, and tuberculin test earlier. These data will be compared with the harvested, in another study coordinated by the Secretariat of State for Health, in the other five Prison Units of Franco da Rocha belonging to Regional of the Great St. Paul of the Secretary of Penitentiary Administration. On the basis of the information obtained will be drawn up a connector of pre-coding, in Epi-Info -6, for typing the data, which, later, will be processed on the basis of Epi-Info database -6, statistically analyzed and presented in graphs and tables.
